Welcome to KIS!
As Head of School, I am excited to lead a nurturing and multi-cultural community of students and staff who are genuinely passionate about learning and actively engaging in and contributing positively to the world around them. I’m driven by a desire to work in a school where staff and students are thriving, actively engaged in learning, and feeling part of a valuable and meaningful community.
At KIS we offer both the primary (PYP) and middle years (MYP) programmes of the IB. We have exceptional, well-qualified and experienced staff members who work collaboratively to offer students a high-quality educational experience. Our classes are small, and we are dedicated to supporting the academic, personal, and social development of every student and foster an environment with a strong focus on well-being, where everyone feels valued.
The school was established in 2003 and has over 190 students from Grade 1 to Grade 10. The language of instruction is English, and we are proud to be a non-selective, state-funded independent school. There are over 39 different nationalities among the students, parents and staff, and the school is shaped by the spirit of community where all stakeholders, students, teachers, parents, and the wider community, work together towards our shared vision.
We actively seek opportunities to connect with the local and global community and learn together with others in real-life contexts and situations, and we strive to empower learners to put learning into responsible action. In our school you will see it as active participation in events and projects in the local and wider community, a wide range of outdoor experiences, exciting and powerful student-initiated projects, and multiple opportunities for students to take leadership within a vibrant and ambitious curriculum.
As we are faced with multiple complex challenges in the world today, the IB aspires to foster internationally minded, compassionate lifelong learners who will aim to create innovative solutions to tackle our global issues.

Kindergarten and High School
We only offer primary and middle school education and do not have an offer for children still in kindergarten/preschool or older youth in high school.
We have cooperation agreements with two local kindergartens who have special focus on international families. Please contact them directly for more information.
Kongsberg Montessori Barnehage
All applications for places in a kindergarten in Kongsberg must go through Kongsberg kommune.
Older youth looking for a school offering the high school programme IB Diploma, should contact Kongsberg Videregående Skole.
Physical and Outdoor Education
Through our unique and varied Physical Education (PE) and outdoor education programmes, we make use of our varied surroudings to offer a wide array of activities and experiences!
The younger students in Grade 1-4 will mostly engage in outdoor PE sessions tailored to suit varied and challenging terrains throughout the seasons. Grade 5 and 6 have PE at Idrettshallen, benefiting from a spacious hall and an extensive range of equipment.
Throughout MYP in grades 7-10, the students will experience a myriad of different activities, sports and training programmes. A few examples of what they get to experience include:
