Principal's Welcome

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both….

Life is a myriad of options and choices.  And in these days, education is offered in a wider variety both nationally and internationally. Choosing Kongsberg International School is a conscious choice for most of you. Some come from abroad, brought by expat families. Some are regional, yet some local. We are not competing with the Norwegian state schools, but we are a solid alternative to those who want to choose differently. At KIS we are committed to developing intuitive, ingenious and divergent thinkers in the service of a global society. We strive for excellence in a stimulating and collaborative environment that places the students at the core of our learning environment, through students planning, implementing and assessing our curriculum.

At its best, teaching raises the bar so that young people can see the path from their own interests to a future they envision, with competencies that give them access to a dynamic and practical reality. We believe we can create such teaching at KIS.

What are the 3 main keys to success for KIS so far? First of all our amazing student body, which is best described as dedicated, caring, risk-taking, creative and knowledgeable. Secondly, our experienced staff, whose dedication matches the students, whose talents are many and diverse, and also, who put “lifelong learning” into practice on a daily basis. Finally, our success has its roots in collaboration among all stakeholders: students, parents, staff, the governing body, the local community and the global community. Through collaboration we grow a wide perspective, learn how to communicate effectively, and not least learn how to tolerate and celebrate each other despite our differences.

Sounds tempting to be part of this learning environment? If so, welcome to KIS. You have just made one of the most important choices in life at this stage!

…Two roads diverged in a wood, and I,
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.
